Poetry and financial automation of language

The effect of financialization of the global economy is an effect of digital technologies.

Not only because computer networks are the tool of financial work, but also because the ontological condition of financialization is the instauration of Simulation at the heart of the word machine.

Simulation means proliferation of copies which have no prototype. Financial power is constantly simulating realities that do not actually exist, emanating flows of semiosis (statistics, forecatsts, predictions, self fulfilling prophecies).

Precarity and finance are two faces of the same coin.

Precarious time is fractalized time, connected by the codified rhythm of networks.

The concatenation of body is connective, not conjunctive.

Bodies have to follow uniformed protocols if they want to exchange data.

Participants in the network have to comply with the shared code of interoperability.

This is leading to a sort of swarm effect, that is explaining the overwhelming power of financial capitalism on society.

The swarm effect implies standardized concatenation of living rhythms to the networked brain.

Language is taken in this process of machinic subjugation. Protocols, format, compatibility of individual language. Net-trading, machinic acceleration of language rhythm.

Proliferation of a new refrain that is fractalized and constantly accelerating.

Poetry is the break in this succession and concatenation, the research and re-emergence of singular language and rhythm.

Poetry implies a reactivation of the relation between sensibility and time.

Sensibility is the ability to singularize linguistic comprehension.

Finance is standard comprehension, subjected to the rhythm of the machine, poetry is re-activation of the bodily (erotic and social body) of language.

Viktor Sklovski, the theorician of the Russian Vanguard in the ‘20s says that literature is essentially an act of priem on language.

What is priem? I would say that priem is a singular non standardized artificial treatment of linguistic matter, producing non codified effects of meaning.

The poetic procedure is a form of estrangement (ostranenie in Russian) that is taking the word away from its common use, from its codified use of everyday, and is trying to reveal unprecedented possible interpretations.

Social movements may be described as a form of priem. When people start an insurrection they are displacing the relation between words and meanings, and re-signifying the surrounding signs.

Movement is the activation of countless singularities who are withdrawing from the standardized rhythm of daily life, and trying to create a collective sphere which is not subjected to the standardized rhythm of machine and of money.

“Art is not chaos but a composition of chaos that yields the vision or the sensation, so that it constitutes, as Joyce says, a chaosmos, a composed chaos – neither forseen nor preconceived. Art transforms chaotic variability into chaoid variety […]. Art struggles with chaos but it does so in order to render it sensory. (Deleuze and Guattari, 204-5)

Speaking of ‘aesthetic paradigm’ Guattari refers to the privileged position that sensibility acquires in the present age, when productive and communicative relationships lose their materiality and embed themselves in the space of sensible projection. Aesthetics is the discipline dealing with the attunement of organism and environment. This attunement is disturbed by the acceleration of stimuli in the infosphere, of semiotic inflation, of the saturation of any attention and conscious space. Art registers and signals this dissonance, but at the same time sets the conditions to discover new modalities of becoming.

In its relation with schizotherapy art is acting in two different ways: as a diagnostics of the pollution of the psycho-sphere and as a therapy of the relationship between the organism and the world, particularly the relation between bodies in the social pace.

Guattari establishes a privileged relationship between the aesthetic and the psychotherapeutic dimension. The problem of the relationship between chaotic velocity and a singularity of lived time becomes crucial. In order to cling to the temporal flux, the mind has to construct its own temporalities: refrains, these are singular temporalities, making orientation possible. The notion of refrain brings us to the centre of the schizoanalytic vision: refrains are the singular temporalities, the individuated niches of the self within which it is possible to create the cosmos.
